We talked to three real women from diverse industries on how they use technology to organize their financial lives.
Q: What favorite budgeting apps and software keep your finances straight?
Google Sheets, YNAB
“I use Google Sheets to track everything from home renovations and trip planning to business expenditures and client budgets,” says Nicole Guilmartin, owner of Nicole Guilmartin – Events, Strategy & Design. “This year, my husband and I vowed to understand where and how we’re spending our money, so we have made budgeting a huge priority.”
“We use YNAB (You Need A Budget) personal budgeting software, and I am obsessed with it,” she goes on. “We’re able to literally track everything and reconcile our account like you do with a checkbook. It’s so helpful to see where things are going. You can make some small (or large) adjustments to save more money.”
FreshBooks
“I’ve been using FreshBooks for five years to organize my business finances,” says Quiana Agbai, founder of Trifecta Media Group, of her favorite budgeting app. “Trifecta is set up as an LLC, so FreshBooks makes it easy to [do] invoices and helps me file my taxes with ease.”
Mint, Excel Spreadsheets, NerdWallet
“As a financial advisor, I have a handful of helpful tools that allow me to stay ahead of the game, as well as helpful tips I give to my clients,” says Phoebe Story, MS.
“For example, the Mint app tracks spending and shows you where your dollars are going, putting them into multiple categories.”
“Excel is also incredibly helpful for calculating monthly budgets,” she continues. “And, NerdWallet is hands down one of the most useful websites. I cannot even tell you how many times a week I am on it. From best credit cards to bank accounts yielding the highest interest, the site is an amazing resource.”
