About Tailored on the Town

200 guests from Boston and surrounding towns are slated to attend the sixth annual Tailored on the Town on November 13th at the Lenox Hotel in Boston. The Boston based nonprofit increases school enrollment and creates economic opportunity by providing the world’s most vulnerable children with locally made school uniforms. Fundswillberaised through ticket and merchandise sales, sponsorship and silent auction sales.

The silent auction has an assortment of items at various price points; jewelry, Red Sox tickets, dinners and accommodations to local restaurants and hotels and even a weekend getaway to Nashville, TN. Just in time for the holidays, their Pop-Up Shop features beautiful one-for-one items; for each Woven in Hope scarf, Tailored tote or Tailored tie purchased, a uniform is provided. In addition, they have comfortable tees, Pura Vida bracelets, brand new mesh hats and clutches and coin purses made in Kenya- the clutches are made by the very same tailors who make the uniforms.

About Tailored for Education

Founded in 2011, Tailored for Education believes education is the key to reducing global poverty and a fundamental right of every child. Yet governments in the most impoverished countries require that students wear costly uniforms to attend school. Beyond removing a significant barrier to education, uniforms legitimize the child, instill a sense of pride and put them on a more even playing field. When a child is in school, exposure to risks such as gang recruitment, kidnapping, child labor and trafficking are reduced. The ripple effect is clear. Receiving a school uniform can change a child’s life forever.

The average uniform cost across their projects is $28; meeting this fundraising goal will make it the organization’s most successful event ever. Special to Wednesday night’s event is a dollar for dollar matching grant up to $100,000; this would enable the organization to provide 8,000 uniforms, to change 8,000 lives.
