Join dozens of female STEM leaders as they share their career experiences and give real-world advice at this dynamic event. Learn what led them down their STEM career path and ask them questions on your mind as you become the next generation of STEM professionals.

This three-part format, designed both to inspire and share professional guidance, includes an informative panel discussion with prominent women leaders in STEM-related fields followed by in-depth breakout discussions and networking opportunities.

Food and parking in the Museum garage is included.

Moderated by Kara Miller, Host, Innovation Hub

Kara Miller is the host and executive editor of the public radio program Innovation Hub, which she launched in 2011. Public Radio International took the program national in 2014, and it now airs on more than 100 stations, including New York, Chicago, Boston, Houston, and Philadelphia. Innovation Hub is a weekly, hour-long show that focuses on big ideas and new research. Kara created the program guided by a genuine interest in how innovation affects our daily lives. As a host, she has interviewed Steve Wozniak, Sherry Turkle, Jared Diamond, Sal Khan, Yo-Yo Ma, Garry Kasparov, and Marissa Mayer, among others. Her writing has appeared in The Boston Globe, The National Journal, TheAtlantic.com, The Huffington Post and The International Herald Tribune. Kara has also contributed to other national radio programs, including “The Takeaway,” “Marketplace Tech,” and “The World.” Kara has moderated panels and spoken about innovation and entrepreneurship at events hosted by The International Women’s Forum, PBS Digital Media for STEM, Harvard Medical School, Google, and MIT Sloan. Kara holds a Ph.D. from Tufts and a B.A. from Yale.

Cait Crawford, Distinguished Engineer, IBM Research

Cait Crawford has spent over two decades in industry doing research and development on systems, software, algorithms and applications. Her work has spanned platforms ranging from the largest supercomputers in the world to low power embedded systems and mobile devices. Most recently, her background in algorithms, performance optimization and embedded systems has led to her projects in machine learning, both deep and shallow, for Decentralized Edge to Cloud AI. She graduated from MIT with an SBME and went on to earn an MSE and PhD from Princeton University in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering specializing in large scale numerical simulations of physical systems. She is currently a Distinguished Engineer at IBM Research AI and when not making the bits fly at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 teenage children.

Nicole Fitzpatrick, Deputy General Counsel, Akamai Technologies

Nicole Fitzpatrick is a Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Akamai Technologies; she also sits on the Diversity and Inclusion Executive Steering Committee within the Company. Nicole joined the Akamai legal team a decade ago, following spending over ten years working in private practice, both as a partner at Goodwin Procter and a junior partner and associate at WilmerHale. Nicole serves her community by sitting on the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of the Meadowbrook School, the Board of Directors of the Girls on the Run, Greater Boston, and she was also the chair of the Business Transactions Section and the Securities Law Subcommittee of the Boston Bar Association. She was honored with a Leader in the Law Award by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. In addition to her robust career, Nicole spends her spare time caring for her four daughters ages 4-12 and enjoys traveling, the Cape, and running-having finished marathons in NY, Chicago, and Boston. She holds degrees from the University of Virginia School of Law and Boston College.

Christina Gordon, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Women’s Foundation of Boston

Christina Gordon is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Women’s Foundation of Boston which has a focused mission to economically empower women and girls in Greater Boston. Christina holds a dual master’s degree in International Finance and Applied Economics from MIT’s Sloan School of Management. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Boston University and also studied for a joint master’s degree in Women’s Studies and Sociology at Brandeis with a focus on women in the workplace. Christina is a former assistant fund manager and technology industry equity analyst at Wellington Management. She also worked as a stock analyst at Fidelity Investments. She is a trustee of a private foundation, a member of Women Moving Millions and currently sits on the board of Rosie’s Place, a sanctuary for poor and homeless women in Boston.

Jennifer M. Chao, Founder, CoreStrategies Management

Jennifer M. Chao is the founder of CoreStrategies Management, a biotech/health sciences focused strategy consulting firm, and works integrally with senior managements and Boards to provide transformational corporate and financial strategies for maximizing core valuation. Jenn is Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Chair, Compensation Committee of BioSpecifics Technologies Corp., (BSTC; NASDAQ). She was previously Managing Director and Senior Lead Biotechnology Securities Analyst at Deutsche Bank, covering large- and small to mid-cap biotechnology/life science companies. Her widely published research has served as a bellwether for investment portfolio managers, the financial and health care industry and has been widely covered by major press and media outlets. Prior to this, Jenn was Managing Director and Senior Lead Biotechnology Analyst at RBC Capital Markets and Senior Analyst, Biotechnology at Leerink Swann & Co. She was a Research Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School and recipient of the Biomedical Research Careers Award and received her B.A. in Politics and Greek Classics from New York University. Jenn is involved with various educational and charitable organizations, and recently joined the Catalyst Council at Museum of Science, Boston. She is an avid political and cultural arts enthusiast, enjoys biographies, cooking, the garden, travel, yoga, tennis and golf.

FAQs

Who is the intended audience?

The purpose of this evening is to inspire, encourage, and empower all female and female-identifying college students interested in pursuing a career in a STEM field.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No. If you have registered, we will have a check-in table with a nametag ready for you upon arrival.

What are my transportation/parking options getting to the event?

There is complimentary on-site garage parking available at the Museum for those attending this event. You should get your parking ticket validated at the registration table.

You can also take the Green Line T to the Science Park station.

Is there food available on-site?

Yes, we will be serving dinner.

What is the dress code?

No formal dress code for this event, but business casual is recommended.

Can I update my registration information?
Yes, if you have an Eventbrite account. Once you’ve logged in, click on the My Tickets tab at the top of the screen, followed by View Order. Here, you can edit any information on your order.

Will I get a confirmation e-mail?
